Angie Alltizer, MPH, CHMM
As former Chief of the DoD Center for Environmental Initiatives and Hands-on Training. Ms Alltizer has extensive experience in the development and delivery of thousands of hours of EHS training for Defense Services. Her career has focused on occupational health and safety issues for US Defense activities.

 

Gil Bakshi, MS
Mr. Bakshi has extensive experience in managing lead and asbestos abatement programs. He has assisted numerous Federal and State organizations in developing compliance programs, training curriculums, and designing abatement projects.

 

Scottie Aplin, JD
As practicing environmental attorney, Ms. Aplin has extensive experience managing environmental risks and liabilities for U.S. Defense activities. Over the last seven years, she has provided regulatory training for all branches of service in the U.S. and abroad.

 

H.E. “Trey” Greene, MPH
Trey Greene has over fifteen years experience assisting defense organizations in complying with US and overseas environmental requirements. He has trained over 12,000 defense personnel in: regulatory compliance, environmental management and emergency response issues.

 

 

 

Basic Training for the Environmental Manager

The second course in the “Basic Training” series is intended for the Environmental Manager. These are individuals responsible for developing and managing installation programs at defense related activities. This can include personnel at the supervisory level; environmental compliance officers; maintenance officers; Hazardous Waste Managers; etc. The course focuses on the management level issues relevant to hazardous waste management, hazardous materials management, storm water pollution prevention, PCBs, Asbestos, Underground Storage Tanks, Lead, Hazardous Materials Emergency Response, managing standard operating procedures (SOPs), training requirements and many others. The training is equally appropriate to those new to the field and those seasoned supervisors wanting to update their training.

0830 Introduction to Defense Environmental Management

This is a general introduction to the course. You will get an overview of the course layout, an overview of the material and training facility.

0930 Introduction to Environmental Laws, Regulation, and Policy

A general introduction to the nature and complexity of environmental laws and how they impact defense installations and their mission.

1100 Regulatory Exposure Exercise

This is a small-group exercise where you analyze how your particular organization may be regulated by various requirements.

1300 Introduction to Environmental Planning and Program Management

You’ll get a basic introduction to the myriad environmental programs and planning requirements set forth by regulation and/or DOD instruction.

1500 National Environmental Policy Act; Planning and Documentation

Here you’ll be introduced to basic NEPA program components and the documentation process.

1600 Natural & Cultural Resources

This is a basic introduction to the implementation and management of natural and cultural resources programs and their requirements.

1700 Ice Breaker hosted by ACGEM

 

Day 2

0830 Solid & Hazardous Waste Management

You’ll learn about the fundamental components of RCRA and associated DOD instructions, including: hazardous waste generator requirements; planning and implementation; and enforcement case studies.

1000 Environmental Permitting

You’ll learn the basics of air quality, NPDES, multi-media permitting; including discussions on working with state regulators.

1200 Lunch  On your own, or with classmates

1300 Environmental Health and Toxicology

An introduction to the basics of environmental toxicology, epidemiology, and public heath risk metrics.

1500 Environmental Measurements and Analysis

An introduction to multimedia environmental sampling methodologies and their analysis including: basics of environmental chemistry, and data interpretation

Day 3

0830 Pollution Prevention Planning

You’ll get a introduction EO 13148 and other current P2 objectives and goals for the DOD. This section includes; a review of current source reduction technologies; reuse and recycling programs; and an overview of organizational responsibilities.

1000 Opportunity Assessment Workshop

You’ll get an introduction to the pollution prevention opportunity assessment (PPOA); and impact measurements and metrics.

1200 Lunch

On your own or with classmates

1300 Systems Approach to Environmental Management (EMS)

You will learn the basics of compliance-based and performance-based environmental management systems.

1400 Environmental Auditing

An introduction to the latest environmental auditing tools (ECAS; ECAMP; ECE), techniques and reporting findings.

1500 Adjourn
