Hazardous Materials/Hazardous Waste Generator Compliance for US Army Activities (40-hours)

Course Description

Initial employee training designed to ensure the safe handling and proper management of hazardous materials and wastes; and minimize liability through compliance with DoD Instruction, Army Regulation and Policy, and Executive Orders; as well as local, state, and federal requirements. Designed to comply with:

  1. DoD Directive 5100.50 Protection and Enhancement of Environmental Quality

  2. Army Regulation (AR) 200-1, Environmental Protection and Enhancement

  3. Army Regulation (AR) 420-47, Solid and Hazardous Waste Management

  4. EPA RCRA/SARA 40 CFR 264.16; 40 CFR 265.16 and 40 CFR 262.34 (d) (5) (iii)

  5. DoD Instruction 6050.5 HMIS

  6. OSHA HAZWOPER 29 CFR 1910.120(e) 24-hour limited exposure

  7. FFCA and Military Munitions Rule

Who Should Attend

This course should be taken by US Army military or civilian personnel (and their supervisors) who handle, package, store, transport, or manage hazardous materials or wastes. The course includes identification and classification of hazardous materials and wastes; health effects and personal safety; packaging, labeling, handling, storage, and transportation procedures; contingency planning and release response; and DoD and US Army hazardous materials and waste directives, instructions, and policy. This course does not provide training for individuals that certify hazardous cargo shipments.

This course fulfills the training requirements initially required for hazardous property handlers by DODI 4120.14 Environmental. Pollution Prevention, Control and Abatement. DODD 5100.50 Protection and Enhancement of Environmental Quality; DODI 6050.5 DOD HAZCOM; RCRA regulations [40 CFR 264.16(a)(1) and 265.16(a)(1)], Hazard Communication program (29CFR1910.1200), and Department of Transportation hazardous materials training requirements (HM-126F and HM-181).
